    What are soap nuts?

    soapnuts-on-tree-150x130.jpg

They actually aren't nuts at all. They are technically the fruit that grows on the Chinese Soap Berry Tree. The best species called Sapindus Mukorossi are grown in Nepal and India. These miraculous berries are gathered and then dried in the sun to preserve them. They are so useful because of their powerful cleaning abilities. The shell contains a very high concentration of saponin which is a natural surfactant. Saponin is also found in other plant species, but soap nuts have the highest saponin content by far. Saponin has major advantages over synthetic toxic chemical cleaners. They are hypoallergenic and gentle on the skin making them great for anyone who is sensitive to chemicals. They also have a net negative carbon footprint making them one of the best green products in the world. Common names for them include, soap berries, wash berries, and aritha.

Are your soap nuts USDA Certified Organic?

Yes they are USDA Certified organic and they are also certified organic by Ecocert. Ecocert is the certification used in Europe.

I WOULD LOVE TO GO GREEN, DO SOAP NUTS COST A LOT MORE THAN TOXIC CHEMICAL DETERGENTS? i-really-love-saving-money.jpg

They actually SAVE you money in comparison to the toxic chemical detergents you purchase in your local grocery store. They also eliminate the need for dryer sheets and fabric softeners since they soften clothes naturally. This saves even more money! They are less than half the cost of regular chemical detergents. Depending on how much laundry you do, you may save $20 to $120 a year! This means when you add them to your cart after reading this sentence, you are saving money!

    How do I use them?

They are very easy to use. Put 3 to 5 whole soap berries in the drawstring bag which is included with your purchase. Lightly tie the bag closed and chuck itwash-bag.jpg in your washer along with your dirty clothes. Don't use any of your old toxic detergents, dryer sheets, or fabric softener as there is no need. They will clean and soften your clothes naturally. Our Kilo bag includes 3 drawstring wash bags. Even after shipping almost all of your berries will be whole when you receive them. We like to break them open or in half before we put them in the drawstring wash bag so water can circulate freely through the inside of the shell. This allows saponin to be released more easily from the shell which adds cleaning power.

Their ability to clean does not depend on what kind of washer you have; they do not discriminate. With a front loader HE (High Efficiency), washing machine most people get about 7 to 9 wash loads using the same nuts each wash. With a top loader most people find they get between 4 and 6 loads. If you want to maximize your usage, the best way to find out if they are still effective is to put your used soap berries in a jar with a lid and some water and shake it. If they still have saponin left, they will create suds and you can use them again. Don't waste the soapy water in the jar either. Instead pour it in the washer.

There are many factors that can effect all cleaning products like water hardness, temperature, altitude, and how dirty your clothes are. We recommend starting with our directions and then experimenting after that. You can try using more or less soap nuts. You can't really get it wrong unless you just aren't using enough. Your just want to find out how to get the most out of soap nuts meaning you use enough for them to work and not so much you are wasting them. It's not rocket science; in fact it's the same as any cleaning product you have used before. If you used bleach before you can still use it with these. If you must use a brightener, we recommend using hydrogen peroxide or oxi-clean since they are non-toxic.

What are the quality of Green Virgin Products Soap Nuts?

Like all of our products, we only sell the best. We have the highest quality available anywhere in the entire world. They are USDA Certified Organic, deseededquality-badge.jpg Sapindus Mukorossi soap nuts. We import them from only the best growers in India and Nepal. They are harvested, dried, hand sorted, cleaned, packaged and labeled by the experienced experts in Nepal. Not only is the quality of their work unrivaled, but it also saves us money and we pass the savings on to our customers.

Green Virgin Products Soap Nuts are kept clean and safe in a resealable biodegradable bag before they are shipped to us. Some of our competitors don't do this. If they are not sealed before they are shipped to America, they may be exposed to the elements during the long ship ride to the USA leaving them at risk for contamination.

Shipping from Nepal can take a couple of months and the soap nuts can absorb the salty sea spray and any humidity in the air. It is possible for them to get contaminated with mold or bacteria which is the last thing you want in a healthy cleaning product! Ours are sealed in bags and are therefore safe from contamination during the sea voyage.

Wash berries are not a complex item like an appliance where a higher price usually buys higher quality. Our competitors have higher prices because they want to make more profit, not because their quality is better. There are soap berries equally as good as ours on the market, but higher quality is not available anywhere in the world at any price, period.

What health hazards can I help avoid by using Soap Nuts as a detergent?

Chemical laundry detergents, fabric softeners and dryer sheets should be avoided. If you still have them you should dispose of them. These products contain chemical-detergents-contain-toxic-waste-and-carcinogens.jpgchemicals labled under federal law as carcinogens, toxic and hazardous. Some are even on the EPA hazardous waste list. The list of health hazards associated with the chemicals in household products is alarming.

For the proof of this, just Google "laundry detergent health hazards". This is not a myth, it's a fact.

The European version of the EPA has banned over one-thousand chemicals. The EPA in the Unites States has banned a total of only 4 chemicals and has not banned any chemicals since 1976. The EPA tried to ban asbestos in 1976 but was unsuccessful in the courts, and that's why asbestos is still being manufactured and sold in large quantities in the USA even though it is a known carcinogen. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates over 107,000 people a year die from asbestos (from the World Health Organization). Can there be any further proof that the government is not protecting your health over the profits of giant corporations? If you want to be healthy, you have to protect yourself and buy products carefully.

Would you buy a cleaning product if it was banned by the government because it was too toxic? Of course you wouldn't. Almost all the leading name brand detergents in America are banned by all the governments in the European Union. That is a total of 28 different countries that have determined that American cleaning products like Tide are far too toxic to be even sold in their country and are banned. But Americans purchase and use these toxic products and are exposed to them every day. The large chemical manufacturers rake in billions of dollars every year while Americans are slowly but surely being poisoned, along with our rivers, air, lakes and coastal waters. Just before World War 2 about 8 thousand people a year died of cancer. Over 8.2 million people died from cancer in 2013.

For a happy healthy family, buy Green Virgin Products Soap Nuts and use our non-toxic cleaning products as well.
