The study concluded that moringa had a hypolipidaemic effect, which means that it safely lowers high cholesterol.
A group of professors and researchers at the University of Agriculture in Pakistan conducted an overview of all the current studies into moringa and they also covered the benefits for those with high cholesterol. They attributed its cholesterol lowering ability to a bioactive phytoconstituent called B-sitosterol and concluded there was significant evidence to show that moringa actively lowered serum cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL) and very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) cholesterol. The group concluded, “The widespread combination of diuretic along with lipid and blood pressure lowering constituents make this plant highly useful in cardiovascular disorders.”
In a recent study published in the Saudi Journal of Biological Sciences, they found that moringa had great potential in the treatment of a number of cardiovascular complications. They included evidence of moringa’s ability to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
A study in India that used moringa in rats with high cholesterol found, “It was concluded that the leaves of Moringa oleifera have definite hypocholesterolemic activity and that there is valid pharmacological basis for employing them for this purpose in India.”
