Can Moringa Help You Lose Weight?

22

Living a healthier life is something that most of us aspire to achieve. However, most of us also know how tricky and difficult it can be to find the right balance in your life of exercise, eating healthy and avoiding the many pitfalls that lead to weight gain. It’s tough to take the time to make a healthy breakfast or pack a good lunch every day. It’s tough to avoid that sugary snack in the afternoon when you’re hungry and tired and that chocolate chip cookie sounds so good. And we all know how tough it is to squeeze in your regular workout when life gets busy. The daily commitment required to maintain a healthy weight is a challenge that seems overwhelming at times.

That’s why we love Moringa and all its amazing by-products so much. Daily use of moringa powder and capsules promote healthy weight loss by simply adding them into your diet. You can slowly make changes to the amount of other foods you eat and use the added energy boost from moringa to exercise more frequently for longer.

To be clear, Moringa by itself will not make you fit into your high school dress overnight. It is simply something that we’ve found to be an important addition to the process of eating healthier and exercising more, and there is science behind that statement. We’ve also found it to be something that is easy to integrate into your current lifestyle so that you can make gradual and lasting changes for your weight and health.

Weight Loss Fads and Facts

Before we dive into what makes Moringa such a great tool for promoting a healthier weight, we want to cover some recent trends and basic facts on weight loss. For starters, most of us understand the concept that weight loss requires consuming fewer calories than we burn on a daily basis over a regular and extended period of time.

Many “miracle weight loss cures” will try to convince you that their pill or program somehow changes this simple reality. Take that one pill or make this one change and suddenly the laws of physics will no longer apply to your body. We’ve all seen these weight loss fads come and go over the years, but they pray on the same mistaken idea that you don’t need to change anything in your life to lose weight. This would be a wonderful miracle. But, alas, we always find out that it’s just another fad backed by no real research or studies, and we often lose hope that we’ll never get our weight where we want it.

Many other weight loss fads will propose the exact opposite. They want you to make a drastic and complete change to all the types of food you eat and start training like you’re running in a marathon. Let’s be real. These may work for a short while (and probably make you feel great in the short term as any increase in exercise at all is prone to do), but how long can you realistically keep it up. How much time can you devote to this new diet while you put everything else in your life on hold? We all know that our increasingly busy lives make it harder to make drastic and lasting changes than ever before, and again it’s easy to lose hope for lasting weight loss.

The US Deparment of Agriculture does have some helpful and simple suggestions for healthy and lasting weight loss that are easy to understand and follow. The basic premise of their suggestion is simple. Eat more leafy green vegetables every day. Seems easy enough, but how many of us are really going to stick to the timeless advice we’ve heard since we were children. If “eat your vegetables” didn’t sink in when your parents repeated it many times, it probably seems unlikely you are going to develop and instant love for vegetables and start eating them every day. What are we to do then?

The Department of Agriculture lays out some convincing evidence of the robust benefits of a diet rich in leafy greens. They list out the benefits of a diet with more vitamins, minerals and amino acids. For example, they explain the importance of B Vitamins for your heart health and colon. They also share evidence that a leafy green diet can help fight many types of cancer.

The most important part for our look into the potential of moringa to help with weight loss and management comes when they state, “Perhaps one of the most appealing benefits of dark green leafy vegetables is their low calorie and carbohydrate contents and their low glycemic index. These features make them an ideal food to facilitate achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight. Adding more green vegetables to a balanced diet increases the intake of dietary fiber which, in turn, regulates the digestive system and aids in bowel health and weight management.”

This explanation of how leafy greens provide many nutritional benefits with the fewest possible calories touches on exactly why moringa clearly helps in weight loss, whether it is directly responsible for the weight loss itself. The idea is simple. Leafy greens deliver lots of nutrition with very few calories. Moringa and its amazing by-products, like our Moringa Ultimate Microfine Powder, are the most nutrient, vitamin, antioxidant and amino acid rich leafy, green foods found on this planet. That makes it an important part of the regiment laid out by the Department of Agriculture for healthy weight loss and management.

In a recent study, Moringa was shown to be effective against obesity and diabetes in mice. There is certainly a need for these same studies on humans, but it sheds light on why so many people have found moringa consumption to be an essential part of maintaining a healthy weight. Waterman et al (2015) concluded that, “Data suggest that [Moringa isothiocyanates] are the main anti-obesity and anti-diabetic bioactives of [Moringa concentrate], and that they exert their effects by inhibiting rate-limiting steps in liver gluconeogenesis resulting in direct or indirect increase in insulin signaling and sensitivity. These conclusions suggest that [Moringa concentrate] may be an effective dietary food for the prevention and treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes.” This study is the first of its kind. There are no previous scientific studies that we could find that directly linked moringa consumption to fighting obesity, even though there are a few other studies that found it to be effective in treatment of diabetes. The importance of this is tremendous because there are very few things that can be scientifically linked to fighting obesity, and fewer still that do so while packing the nutritional punch of moringa.
