Can Moringa Really Help in Boosting Your Weight Loss?

Moringa is a native Indian tree that’s been used in traditional medicine settings for centuries. Its nutrient-packed leaves, stems, and seeds treat a range of conditions, from skin diseases and general infections to type II diabetes and heart disease. More recently, science has indicated that moringa offers potent benefits for sustainable weight loss.

If you’re looking for an all natural way to lose weight and maintain the numbers on the scale you want to see, moringa could offer the solution.

Here’s everything you need to know about moringa and weight loss, how to amplify the supplement’s weight loss powers, and how to take moringa to keep your weight at an ideal level.

How Does Moringa Work?

The leaves of the Moringa oleifera tree are full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other plant-based compounds that can help to promote lasting weight loss and overall good health.

However, like most supplements and superfoods, moringa needs specific conditions in which to work its magic. It needs to be paired with a balanced, healthy diet centered on whole plant foods and a healthy lifestyle to maximize weight loss.

A healthy diet also incidentally includes many dishes to which moringa can be added, including soups, smoothies, and salad dressings.

This health-boosting supplement can easily be added to most of your meals and drinks. This will enhance their nutritional value and keep you feeling satisfied while you improve your diet and lifestyle.

Which Compounds in Moringa Promote Weight Loss?

As shared, moringa is loaded with nutrients and constituents that can help you to drop extra weight, and even keep it off in the long run too. Let’s take a look at each of the key compounds that give moringa it’s weight loss enhancing ability:

Fiber

Fibre helps improve digestion in addition to keeping you fuller for longer which can help to prevent overeating.

Firstly, moringa leaves and powders are high in quality fiber, which helps to balance your blood sugar levels, keep them stable throughout the day, aid healthy digestion, and prevent you from overeating.

Fiber also helps to nourish the good bacteria in your gut, which can have a significant impact on your weight loss results in the long term. Beneficial gut microbes feed on the fiber and nutrients in moringa, and create healthy, thriving colonies that can enhance your immune function.

Moreover, moringa is low in calories, which is great for anyone on a calorie restricted diet, and is a good source of essential protein – another nutrient that helps to keep you feeling full and balances your blood glucose and insulin levels during each meal.

Polyphenols

Polyphenols help you to lose weight by suppressing your appetite to reduce over-eating, help to regulate your metabolism throughout the day and can even help to inhibit fat absorption from food.

Moringa is a rich source of polyphenols, which could help to keep obesity in check. Polyphenols are potent plant compounds also found in green tea, which act as antioxidants and weight loss agents in one.

A study published in the journal Phytotherapy Research in 2017, assessed 19 studies and found that these compounds may play a role in reducing weight in overweight and obese individuals.

Several of the studies also indicated that polyphenols could help to prevent weight increases during periods of overfeeding.

Chlorogenic Acid and Niazimicin

Chlorogenic acid helps by reducing the amount of calories and glucose absorbed from your food and improves your metabolism

Moringa leaves contain chlorogenic acid. This compound can promote weight loss by reducing the number of calories absorbed from the foods you eat.

Another important compound, niazimicin, also reduces the production of fatty acids within the body, which could help to decrease the amount of energy deposited as fat in adipose tissue. Additionally, studies like this 2021 paper have found that niazimicin has neuroprotective properties and could even hold promise in treating neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's disease in the future.

Catechins and Flavonoids

These compounds help to reduce inflammation in addition to reducing fat absorption from foods

Catechins and flavonoids have both been proven in clinical trials to reduce systemic inflammation. Inflammation is often considered to be the root of most modern diseases. It’s both a consequence of obesity and a driver of diseases like heart disease and diabetes that cause obesity. Moringa’s catechins and flavonoids can lower inflammation within virtually every system of the body, helping to prevent and treat inflammatory issues that make it more challenging to lose weight and keep it off.

Alkaloids, another range of compounds found in our high-quality moringa powders and supplements, is also believed to have powerful anti-inflammatory effects. A recent 2021 study found that alkaloids, which are widely distributed in plants, offer such diverse and strong anti-inflammatory activities that they could actually inspire the discoveries and developments of new anti-inflammatory drugs.

What Does The Science Say About Moringa and Weight Loss?

There are many scientific studies that have found that moringa supplements can enhance weight loss results in both human and animal patients.

One controlled trial published in Lipids in Health and Disease found that obese patients who received a 900mg daily supplement containing moringa lost 4.8kg (10.6lb) during a period of 8 weeks, while the placebo group only lost 1.8kg (4lb).

In another larger study of 130 patients with obesity, patients were administered the same 900mg daily supplement or a placebo pill.

Those who took the moringa supplement lost 5.4kg (11.9lb) on average over a period of 16 weeks, compared to an average weight loss of just 0.9kg (2lb) for the placebo group.

The group taking moringa also significantly reduced their LDL (‘bad’) cholesterol levels and boosted their ‘good’ HDL cholesterol levels at the same time.

Yet more research published in Phytotherapy Research notes that many different parts of the moringa plant, including the leaves, seeds, roots, bark, fruits and flowers may offer anti-obesity, anti-cancer, anti-epileptic, and anti-inflammatory properties.

There’s also evidence that moringa has anti-hypertensive, cholesterol-lowering, anti-diabetic, antibacterial, and anti-fungal properties too.
